ECOLOGY : Section 01

CATALOG: BIO 301. Ecology; Credit: 4 cr. Hrs. ; Plants and
animals in relation to their environment. Role of humans in
the ecosystem. Field trips. Lecture 3 hours, laboratory 3

TOPICS: This is primarily an introductory course
designed to teach you basic concepts in ecology. Two
classes each week, usually Tuesdays and Thursdays, will be
spent in lecture in the lab in CA 227. The other
class period, usually Tuesday afternoons, will include labs
in CA 227 or in the field locally, where we will become
acquainted with ecological principles by a series of
hands-on encounters.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: This course introduces the
biology major to the concepts of evolution and adaptation,
general principles of physiological ecology, population
biology and epidemiology, community and conservation
ecology, ecosystems ecology, and environmental biology, and
biogeochemical cycles.
