TOPICS: This is primarily a course
designed to learn various vascular plants from different
habitats in northwest Mississippi. One class each
week, usually Thursday afternoon, will be spent in the lab
in CA 209 or CA 227. The other class periods, usually
Tuesdays and Thursday mornings (10:50AM-12:05PM), will
include lectures in CA 227, where we will become acquainted
with plant taxonomy and the use of various dichotomous keys
to identify unknown plants. Our focus will be on use
of the Cronquist system of plant classification and how to
use different types of information to build systems of
classification. Additonally, some class time will be
devoted to developing an understanding of herbarium
procedures and operations.
